hi guys. I just wrote a long message and then it dissapeered so Iīm not going to re-write it but in short I just wanted to say hi and that I canīt use my computer because my harddrive broke.
Just would like to say hey guys. Met some of your guys in SWAT. Just here to introduce my self, and to say hi. Im interested in joining CQU also. Just a lil about me: Names Tim, From Florida in the USA, im 16, and I like to skate, I have been playing Online Multi Player Games for a while. The ones i play Currently are: SWAT 3, Battlefield 1942 w/ the DC mod. Battlefield Vietnam, and Counter Strike.
We usually have a combination of the in-game comm system, a CustomChat and regular chatchannel. Problem with voiceprogs is that you either have to hold down a button whilst speaking (thus not having all fingers ready on the controls), or use voice-activation.
We play in the evenings (GMT+1) usually somewhere between 20:00 and 24:00. We do not have specific times and days because most of us are busy with their "RL" stuff, sundays are always popular because it's everyone free day.
Often you find rooms up from ye olde SWAT3 clans (you named most of them already) around the times mentioned above. In our room we usually have a bunch of BBE'ers as well as a ever-changing group of 'outsiders' who enjoy gaming with us.
Some prefer the LA*PD room too, although they don't put the emphasis on co-op.
I agree that my statement about the SWAT3 community was unfortunately a bit arrogant and was indeed generalising.
During the SWAT3 days I did play with most serious clans though (SAS, FSK, PARA, CTO, WOP, PAW, LAPD and some with you guys) and though some of these, your clan and -cto- in particular, seemed to strive for realism, most clans totally or partially ignored it and went with what worked most efficiently and had very few actual SOPs.
We don t consider ourselves elite players. What we do that most clans don t, is place heavy emphasis on tactics and procedures, and keeping everything as realistic as possible. This extensive tactics system takes quite long to get accustomed to and even longer to master, and very few people feel like learning all the procedures (and update themselves with modifications of the systems) and instead want to stick to more rudimentary SOPs and more loose gameplay.
So what makes us different from the avarage team isn t 1337 skills, but depth of tactics, and teamwork, and not allowing ourselves to "go with what works" if it doesn t correspond to tactics/approaches used by reallife teams.
Granted, realism is very hard to define since most reallife teams have their own systems or modificated versions as you mention, but what we mean is that we don t allow ourselves to use any tactics that we don t know that real teams use.
'Presence'
What I ment with presence, is the feeling of actually being there, created by clothsounds, movement, movement bumps etc. RvS does many things terrible, but I have never played a MP game that had such realistic indoor movement feel.
Virtual Battle System
We ve had our eyes on this one and it seems very promising, except that it looks like it has the same indoorfeel as GR and others. The price isn t very attractive either.
It is a matter of knowing when and where to look if you want to find them.
If you could inform us where to look, we d appreciate it very much.
